Aliens may already be among us, especially all the spooky sights and sounds in the backyard in The X-Files: Earth Children Are Weird by Kim Smith.
Young Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are having a campout in the backyard. After a scary story before bedtime, the strange shadows and sounds outside the tent pique the interest and imagination of Mulder toward alien encounters. The ever level-headed Scully finds logical, real-life explanations for the strange sights and sounds…but are they the truth?
Adorable: that’d be my one word summary of this book. It’s an amusing, light-hearted story that maintains the notable and expected characteristics of Mulder and Scully for parents (or just totally normal adults like me) to reconnect with the original TV series, but also affords the young Mulder and Scully a level of innocence befitting of the children who’d read this book or have it read to them. The illustrations within this book are beautiful and contain a lot of detail to convey a different level to the story’s narrative.
Overall, I’d give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
*Not gonna lie, it’ll look great on my bookshelf next to a completely unrelated poster I happen to have:
